Ollie, a 7 yo, 17 hands Thoroughbred is looking for his new forever home. Ollie, along with his mother (Purpley) and aunt (Mouse), was surrendered by his breeder/owner who was now not in the position to care for them any longer. Ollie's left eye was covered in a quickly growing cancerous tumor and we had to perform emergency surgery to remove the eye on May 14, 2018. The lab reports state that the surgical margins are free of evidence of the tumor, and therefore, he is cancer free! He is recovering very well, not rubbing or scratching the stitches and is adapting well to his new vision. The stitches will be removed this week.
Horses with one eye can manage quite well after a few days of adjustment and go on to continue their training for showing, jumping and trail riding. He is a strong and kind horse. He is fine with a saddle on his back, but we have not yet ridden him. We are introducing the techniques of natural horsemanship to him and believe it will be a wonderful new path for him.
He is a kind horse willing to learn. He is capable of great things - just needing a loving human to be his leader and guide him through these curious next years of his life.
He stands for grooming, farrier, vet. LOVES to be scratched on his hind quarters. His favorite! We are introducing him slowly to the other horses, watching the dynamics closely. But it is clear he wants to be accepted into the herd. We are hoping someone will fall in love with this big, lovable guy and share an adventurous, full life with him.
