Chessy is a 10 to 12-year-old mare who recently came to SERRA after being rescued from a neglectful and abusive situation.

When she arrived, it was clear that Chessy had endured far too much. Her hooves were severely overgrown, and she was coping with a damaged knee that is now arthritic. She had also very recently weaned a foal. Most heartbreakingly, her tail had been cut off, leaving her unable to swat away flies or protect herself in such a basic and natural way.
 

For now, our focus is on helping Chessy feel safe and as comfortable as possible. Our team is carefully assessing her condition and determining the best path forward for her care and recovery.
